What
is "Somatic Education"?
| Somatic education focuses on mind and body integration.
Therefore, a somatic dance class would become a course in conceptual, visual,
and kinesthetic learning as well as an academic, logical, and an intellectual
experience. |

Scherr's Dance Class Expectations
STUDENT ACTIVITIES
• Daily dance class • Dance skills and terminology • Exposure to various dance styles • Student choreography • Performance videos • Dance history • Physiology • Possible guest artistsPERFORMANCE
• Perform in class, as a part of class activities and daily routines • Optional Dance Teams rehearse during homeroom and after school (scheduled rehearsals as needed). See the chart below. EXPECTATIONS
• Comfortable clothing, easy to move in (non-baggy clothes are best so posture is easy to assess) • Good hygiene (clean clothing, changed each day - clothes changed after dance class if needed) • Ability to follow classroom rules and conduct, be a good listener and audience as well as a participator! • Ability to share positive feedback on their own skills and the skills of others (thoughtful, constructive criticism). • School appropriate behavior & language - if you?re rude or disruptive, you STAND & APOLOGIZE! • Positive attitude about self and others • Non-competitive, team-oriented behavior, be supportive! • An OPEN mind! • Participation is essential to a passing grade • There will be graded homework, assignments, projects, and tests • If you TRY, you will SUCCEED! It may take practice - don?t give up! We will help you! • Students need to be responsive to new ideas. ?Talent? is not essential to a good grade, effort is! • HAVE FUN!! CHOREOGRAPHY
• 7th and 8th grade students will have solo or group choreography projects. The routines will be viewed in class every Friday for four weeks and must be revised weekly and completed in the 4th week when it is due. • Dancers may choose any style of dance as long as music, gestures, costuming, and content are school appropriate and pre-approved by Ms. Scherr. The Dance Teams
WHAT IS THE DANCE TEAM?
The Dance Team is for dance students who wish
to perform as a large or small group in a performance atmosphere.
• The ALLEGRO and EXPLOSION dance teams are open to B.F. Brown Arts Vision and Fitchburg Museum Partnership School students by audition or invitation and is for our most skilled dancers. These dancers will still require skill training. • The ADAGIO and BLAST dance teams are open to B.F. Brown and Fitchburg Museum Partnership School students by audition or invitation and is for dancers with potential who require skill training. * Members
of the Dance Team may also be offered the opportunity to perform in dance
routines in drama productions as needed.
* Dancers
are not placed on teams by age or dance training background. Rather,
all dancers are placed on teams and in choreography by ability level. |

3rd, 2:30 - 4:00 pm (after school)

REHEARSALS
Dancers must be willing and able to attend
all of the rehearsals scheduled unless Ms. Scherr agrees in advance.
Most rehearsals will be on Monday after school. Extra help/training
sessions are available during recess periods. |

their strength and ability in specific dance styles. Auditions for
specific parts may be held when required by choreography. |
EXPECTATIONS
All dancers are expected to behave in a professional
manner, be courteous to and supportive of their fellow dancers, follow
instructions, attend rehearsals regularly, and be attentive and dedicated
at rehearsal. Dancers who are unable to adhere to these expectations
may be put on probation or asked to leave the dance team. |
